Uluru

Everyone's heard of Ayers Rock, well at least I hope they have, what the hell were you doing in geography? It's a big lump of red sandstone in the middle of nowhere, the Abo's name for it is Uluru. They're not that keen on people climbing it but there's still a route to the top with chain for the steep bit and white lines to point the way, the climb is definitely worth it if you're fit enough. Also to see here are the Olgas, called Kata Tjuta by the locals. They're more lumps of red rock that stick out of the flat surrounding plain. There's a few walks to do around both and you can go and watch sunrise/sunset at either and see the rocks change colour in quite a spectacular fashion, we thought sunrise was best. The first mountain you see on the road to Uluru is Mount Connor, it is also red and changes colour but is outside the NP so we didn't go.

Accommodation - Ayers Rock Resort campground. It's not like you get a choice, this is the only one here. It's nice though with excellent facilities and big plots. You do end up with red sand in everything though.
