Yet another stop off on the way up the track. This one's claim to fame is having the oldest pub in the Northern Territory. It used to be quite a busy place apparently, it was one of the stop off airports for the long distance flights, i.e. London - Sydney, before they invented planes that could go all the way by themselves. The pub has character, it's a bit ramshackle inside with a mixture of old memorabilia ranging from beer mats to old flying doctor emergency radios to old underwear. They do a beef and barra (barramundi) barbie every night, the portions were enormous, the steak was the size of a dinner plate. The entertainment was rubbish, just a couple of doddering old chancers, have a read of the diary for more. Accommodation - Stayed on the pubs campsite so we didn't have far to walk! It was a chaotic place with little organisation and portaloo style toilet facilities, at least they were clean and the water was hot. |
