Pucon

Excellent town in the shadow of the Villarrica volcano. There's a ski resort on the volcano and the town is a bit like an alpine ski town. All the buildings are wooden and it's a bit touristy. We hired mountain bikes for the day and did a 40km to lake Carburgua and back. The lake reminded me of Lake Como in Italy but without the houses.

Accommodation - A bloke called Lalo Bravo met us at the bus station. He speaks English and runs the Politur tour company, he also has 5 guest houses dotted around the place. The one we stayed in was nice, it had just been done up after a group of Israeli's trashed it (now he wont take any Israelis at all, he'd rather have empty beds). It was $8000/night with shared bathroom and kitchen use. He was very helpful and when I said the bed was a bit soft he had the maintenance man build some supports to make it firmer.
