It's an industrial town where there's a large steel works apparently, not that we went looking for it. It's also the southern most point of "the track", the road that runs up the middle of Oz. The town was small, there's only one main street, and a bit frightening, I wasn't completely happy leaving the car in Woolies car park but we had to do it. The Arid Lands Botanic Gardens on the outskirts is definitely worth a visit.

Accommodation - Port Augusta Holiday Park. Nice and big but lots of signs up along the lines of lock it or loose it and a 3m security fence round the whole site sort of confirms my impressions of the town.
