Phuket

Is pronounced poo-ket by all the locals, but I still prefer the western version. It is the most westernised place we have been, more so than Bangkok. The locals here are obviously getting rich off the tourism, you can tell from the cars, more Mercs and BMW's, the quality of the resorts seems to be better. Ao Karon (say it in any western accent and it sounds like a whine, I like Birmingham and Australian!) is just like any resort you would find in Spain, our bungalow is as good or better than any apartment we have had in Europe. The beach is very clean white sand, the sea is clear as well although deeper than I expected. There is no hassle from taxi or tuk-tuk drivers like we've had before either.

The best thing about Phuket is the beaches, it's official, the bloke in the TAT (official government tourist office) told us. The waterfalls aren't worth going to, the locals don't like them, and the aquarium is small and not worth going too if you've ever been to a decent one in anywhere else. The sunset on the western side where we were was very nice, that's why there's lots of pictures, I didn't know which ones too leave out so I put them all in.

Accommodation. We stayed in Seaview bungalows which were sort of like the apartments you get in Greece or Spain. One of the best we've been in, very big, huge double bed, hot shower, proper toilet and it gets cleaned once a day. We only had a fan room which was 350b/night but could really have done with aircon as it was so hot.
