Chang Mai

Not as nice as I thought it was going to be but still better than Bangkok. We arrived on Sunday to find the main road into town from the bus station, Tha Phae Road, was closed and there was a huge local fair/street market going on. It was very good and goes on every Sunday during the dry season I think. There is quite a lot to do here other than visit Wats and museums. There is lots of hill trekking and lots of cookery courses to go on. We went on a one day course with The Master school. It was very good, our teacher spoke very good English and he has taken someone with the same sort of natural talent for cooking as goldfish have for bricklaying and made them cook two edible curries and some Phad Thai.

Accommodation: We stayed in the Moon Muang Golden Court Hotel which is inside the old city walls/moat. It's not far from all the main bits and very reasonable at 200 bhat/night for a fan double. The view out of the window is amazing as we are at the back of the building, it is due west and we can watch the sunset behind the hills while lying in bed. We can also see the ruined giant chedi at Wat Chedi Luang.
