Kuala Lumpur

We had met a couple in Vang Vieng that said it was worse than Bangkok, we didn't think so at all, it is lots better. There is still lots of traffic but it is more ordered, less chaotic. The public transport system is excellent, well the two railways we went on were anyway, very modern and spotlessly clean. We stayed in Chinatown and, despite there being a night market one street away, we didn't find it that noisy. There is a lot less hassle as well, no Tuk-tuk's for one thing, the cabs occasionally beeb you but it's not over the top. The maps seem to be all out of proportion as we were able to walk between most of the sights. If you like shopping, the KLCC mall in the Petronas towers complex is worth a visit they have everything, well nearly. There are lots of other malls as well, they all seem to have a McDonalds and KFC in them for some reason.

Accommodation - Despite our plans of walking around a few places before we chose one we ended up staying in the first hotel that looked descent, the Nan Yeang on Jalan Sultan. They didn't have any doubles for the two nights we wanted so he gave us a triple for the same price. It was RM77 for that with air-con, bathroom and TV, although that was as old as I was and only had three channels so it was irrelevant. We saw a couple of backpackers places on our travels and they looked rough, the street with the night market had the Swiss Inn hotel on it which looked very nice for the same price as ours, we couldn't be bothered to move though.
