Vientiane

It's very small, just an itsy bitsy little place. And quiet as well, I guess that's to be expected given there more people in Bangkok than the whole of Laos. We have quite happily walked around in the middle of the road at times with no chance of being run over. We worked out our own tour of the sights and then walked around them in half a day, we deliberately missed three of them so we would have something to do on the second day.

Accommodation: The first night we stayed in the Samsenthai Hotel, I have no idea why, we were tired after the nine hour bus journey I guess and it was only US$7/night. It is disgusting, I wouldn't recommend it to someone I didn't like. It is dirty, mouldy mosquito ridden and badly needs renovating. We got up really early and left. We moved to the Phone Paseuth Guest House, it is new, and very nice. The stairs to the fourth floor where we were give you a good work out. Because we got here so early we got an aircon room for US$15 instead of US$18, still more than we wanted to pay but worth it as it's so nice, it's in a good location as well.
