Vang Vieng

We were only going to stop here for one night to break up the journey from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, it's so nice we stayed for four days. Our version of the LP only gives it two paragraphs, there's no map and four guest houses listed. Things have come along a bit since then, there's loads of places to stay and lots to do. Try the kayking for a good day out, hire a mountain bike and see some of the caves in your own time or float down the river in an inner tube for five hours if you want a really lazy day.

Accommodation: We stayed in the Nana Guesthouse as it was the first one we tried and was only US$5/night. It's OK but there are new and better ones available. It's on the southern edge of the town near where the locals live. It gets really noisy just before dawn as all the cockerels wake up and start screaming.
