Nice little town on Lake Te Anau. Ideal place to stay to explore Fjordland and visit Milford Sound. It's 112km to Milford and it's about a 2 hour drive through the mountains. They have 7 meters of rain a year at Milford so you'll be lucky to get a dry day, we couldn't see a thing when we went, there was low cloud and a torrential downpour. There are some excellent treks round here if you have the time, the Milford track you have to book about a year in advance though.

Accommodation - Te Anau Mountain View Top 10. 5 star and just won the campsite of the year award 2002. Excellent everything, spa is very relaxing.
